These ‘Roadside Kitchens/Restaurants’ are a dominant phenomenon in many low income areas in Nairobi. Hundreds of them can be seen sprinkled all over slum areas in the capital city, and especially in Eastlands. Due to the high costs charged for renting space in buildings to host a restaurant, many small-scale entrepreneurs opt for the roadside kitchens/restaurants, which are quite popular with patrons. Actually, most of them are run by women – interesting.
